Grammy & Grampa in Heidelberg

The first REAL day of my mom and dad's trip, I got them out of the house (to enjoy the sunshine and help their jetlag).  We drove about 45 minutes away to a city called Heidelberg.  It's one of the biggest tourism towns here, and also our old stomping grounds.  This is where we stayed when we visited Germany the first time, as well as where we moved to for the first few months.  It has a special place in my heart.

First, we drove around and I showed them our apartment and where the girls went to school.  We then grabbed some lunch at our family's favorite German version of an American restaurant, "Mandy's."  It's a train car that's been converted into a restaurant and has a bunch of eclectic American decorations all around inside.  They even were decorated for Halloween and had ice in their drinks.  Woohoo.  That made my dad happy.  He's ADDICTED to ice.

Afterward, we visited the Heidelberg Castle.  It was a bit cold, but we had a great time walking the grounds and seeing the view.

We decided not to go down into the little Marksplatz walking square.  It was getting late and we needed to get back before the girls got out of school.  The girls didn't want to miss one moment with Grammy and Grampa.

That is one of the cities I missed when I lived there. How fun for your parents to see where you lived first, and I love the idea of the train car restaurant. What a fun place!
